The houses in Ilfracombe
Ilfracombe is built on hills above the harbour, and a good deal of the housing is tall and narrow: three storeys, more than one flight of stairs, and rooms on levels that made sense when everyone in the house could climb them. It also takes the weather straight off the Bristol Channel, which is hard on anything fixed outside.
The work we take on here
Every one of these is arranged and managed by us, and inspected before it is signed off.
Making one floor work
In a tall house the honest answer is sometimes not a stairlift. Moving a bedroom downstairs and putting a shower room on the same level can be better, and cheaper. We will say so.
Stairlifts on more than one flight
Where the layout genuinely needs it. We measure properly and put a qualified installer on it rather than guessing from a doorway.
Rails that survive the coast
Salt air takes the finish off cheap fittings within a year or two. We specify rails that will still be solid in five winters, and we come back and check them.
Outside steps and lighting
Steep approaches and dark evenings are a bad combination. Rails on both sides where there is room, and a light that comes on by itself.
Villages we cover around Ilfracombe
Combe Martin, Berrynarbor, Woolacombe, Mortehoe, Lee, Hele and the coastal villages between.
