The houses in Barnstaple
Barnstaple sits on the Taw and is the largest town in North Devon, so the housing runs from Victorian terraces near the centre to post-war estates and newer bungalows on the edges. The older terraces are where the same problems come up again and again. Steep, narrow stairs with a handrail on one side only, a bathroom upstairs and no room for a second one, and a front door that opens straight onto the pavement.
The work we take on here
Every one of these is arranged and managed by us, and inspected before it is signed off.
A second stair rail
On a narrow Victorian staircase a rail on both sides turns the stairs from a daily worry into something manageable. It is a small job with a large effect.
Level access showers
Where the bath is upstairs and climbing into it has become a problem. We look at what the room and the plumbing will actually take before anyone promises a wet room.
Better lighting
Stairs, landing and the route to the bathroom at night. Often the cheapest change on the plan and one of the most effective.
Front door access
A rail beside the step, a light that comes on by itself, and a key safe so family and carers are not left waiting outside.
Villages we cover around Barnstaple
Bishop's Tawton, Landkey, Swimbridge, Fremington, Bickington, Tawstock and the villages either side of the river.
